Abstract
This project was undertaken to develop a 30 hour introductory course of study in technology education for third year Diploma of Industrial Arts students at Memorial University of Newfoundland. -- A review was conducted of the development of industrial arts programs in North America, the growing influence of technolgy on society and education, and the development of technology education programs. A brief review was conducted of world wide trends in technology education and of a number of programs in North America. -- A technology education program was developed and evaluated using the Thiagaragan A-D instructional development process of Define, Design, Develop, and Disemminate. The program consisted of a three hour introduction to technolgical systems (An Overview of Technology), followed by 27 hours of Technology Learning Activities (TLAs) in selected technologies. There were two computer assisted drafting TLAs, three robotics TLAs, and two desktop publishing TLAs. -- The course was successfully tested and was adopted by the university as a component of the Industrial Education program.
