Abstract

As part of the CAUL/CBUA Experience Exchange Webinar series, the CAUL/CBUA Scholarly Communications Committee presents an Open Access Week webinar on the development of Open Access Author’s funds in the Atlantic region. Lisa Goddard, Scholarly Communications Librarian at Memorial University, will describe the evolving policy environment that is driving the development of OA journals with Author Processing Charges, will explore the different business models that constitute ‘Gold’ OA, and will outline best practices for OA fund administration. This will include a discussion of efficient workflows for managing article invoices, the benefits of Open Access publisher memberships, and strategies for dealing with ‘predatory’ OA publishers. Gillian Byrne will review the current state of Gold OA support at Atlantic university libraries, will talk about consortial approaches to Gold OA, and will open the discussion for practical steps for moving forward as a region.
