This report provides a synthesis of the relevant research-based evidence on preventing and managing agitation and aggression in long term care residents with dementia in Newfoundland and Labrador. This report is intended to inform and assist decision makers in Newfoundland and Labrador’s four Regional Health Authorities and its Department of Health and Community Services. The findings of our synthesis are based on an international search of the literature and may also be applicable to other countries, but are specifically interpreted for the context of Newfoundland and Labrador. Decision makers from other jurisdictions, especially those with similar potential clients, geography and resources, may also find the content helpful. The report includes explanations of research terms and technical language; as such, there is no need to have a specialized medical or health background in order to understand its content.
